1. Who is responsible
DEJ Gold & Silver, trading at Shop 5, 94-96 Grimshaw Street, Greensborough, Victoria 3088, is responsible for the personal information described here. Any question about your information can be raised with us in store.
2. What we collect
When you sell items to us or take a loan against gold, we collect your name, your address, your date of birth, and a record of valid photo identification such as a driver licence or passport. We also keep a description of the items, their weight and tested purity, and the amount paid. If you ask us to pay by PayID, we record the bank details you give us for that transfer.
We do not ask for more than the transaction needs, and we do not collect personal information about you from third parties.
3. Why we collect photo identification
Recording photo identification is a legal requirement for second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers in Victoria. The law requires us to keep a record of who we buy from and what we buy, so that goods can be traced if they are reported stolen. We cannot complete a purchase or a loan without sighting and recording valid photo ID. This is not optional, and it is the same for everyone.
4. How we store it and keep it safe
Transaction and identification records are kept in the dealer register we are required to maintain. We store that information securely and limit access to the people who run the business. We take reasonable steps to protect it from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.
5. How long we keep it
We keep transaction and identification records for the period the law requires, and then we securely destroy or de-identify them. We do not keep your information for longer than we need it.
6. When we share it
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for marketing. We disclose information only where the law requires it, for example to Victoria Police or a regulator in connection with the dealer register, or where you have asked us to.
7. Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and request a copy. If anything is wrong, you can ask us to correct it. Speak to us in store and we will help. We may need to confirm your identity first, for the same reason we record it. Where the law requires us to keep a record, we may not be able to delete it, but we will explain why.
8. Making a complaint
If you are concerned about how we have handled your information, tell us and we will work through it with you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version on this page at the time of your visit is the one that applies. The last reviewed date is shown at the top.
